Socionext CGI Studio fully supports PowerVR Series8XE

HMI design for embedded systems

At Embedded World in Nuremberg this week, the team from Socionext and Socionext Embedded Software Austria are on hand in the Imagination stand (#4-629) to demonstrate the new SC1810 SoC, which uses a PowerVR Series8XE GPU.Socionext SC1810

This first integration of a PowerVR Series8XE GPU in a sampled SoC represents a further evolution in both features and performance for in-vehicle graphics display controllers, an area where Socionext has a well-proven track record. The SoC has a quad-core processor capable of handling six channels of Full HD video inputs, and three channels of Full HD display outputs.

At the show, we’ll be showing the SoC using CGI Studio, Socionext’s 2D/3D software development solution for creating many innovative Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), but particularly those for the automotive sector. Its open architecture enables deep integration and automatisation into your company’s development workflow, which is accomplished with one tool and approach. Fast boot-up times, small footprints and the critical automotive standards and regulations of ASIL, MISRA and SPICE are all still retained. CGI Studio demonstrates the advanced features of the Series8XE GPU and its support for the latest APIs including OpenGL ES 3.2.

CGI Studio Scene Composer
The central tool of CGI Studio is the Scene Composer. It is capable of handling 2D and 3D content with ease to enable the creation of modern HMIs including animations and spectacular visual effects.

Since it was created specifically to address the requirements of in-vehicle displays, CGI Studio enables the development of innovative HMIs for instrument clusters, infotainment systems, head-up displays and rear-seat entertainment systems. It offers a systematic approach to HMI design management, and the end-product is a solution that meets essential automotive requirements, such as fast boot-up time, small memory footprint and compliance to ever more stringent automotive standards and safety regulations.

In modern vehicle architectures, the capability to operate in a distributed and fully connected environment is essential. With this in mind, CGI Studio offers extensive support for inter-domain communications, real-time operating systems, Linux, and embedded Hypervisors.

Thanks to the PowerVR Series8XE, CGI Studio is able to boost system performance even when faced with hardware resource and cost constraints: a particular feature of embedded systems and more stringent than those applicable to PCs or tablets.
