PowerVR SDK v3.5 is live, adds support for Android Extension Pack

PowerVR SDK v3.5 marks our first release for 2015 and is now live on our community page. We’ve made some significant improvements to several of the utilities and the SDK.

In this release, support has been added to PVRVFrame for Android Extension Pack (AEP) as well as new hardware profiles including the Google Nexus Player, Dell Venue 8 3840, Lenovo K900 and Onda V972. In PVRTune, a new set of counters has been defined for the PowerVR Series6 family to make both high-level and low-level analysis easier. Additionally, the counters are now categorized under Overview, GPU Advanced, Renderer, Shader for simplified navigation.

PVRTrace features optimized memory usage as well as an enhanced user interface, with a new draw call inspector and better render state machine analysis and browsing. In PVRTexTool, we have added support for ASTC. PVRShaderEditor now supports OpenCL profiling and disassembly for PowerVR Rogue GPUs.

PVRHub supports 64-bit CPU architectures and also has an updated configuration file format and relaxed requirements for superuser.

The SDK now provides out of the box support for Google’s Android Studio IDE.

We’ve revisited all the old PVRTune counters and created a whole new set of counters for the PowerVR Series6 family. These counters now capture a better overview of the hardware and are meaningfully grouped under a number of headings, as shown below. This makes both high-level and low-level profiling tasks a lot easier. Documentation for the list of counters has also been added in this release.

PVRTrace benefits from a revamped and widely enhanced Graphical User Interface. Tabulated information has been styled for consistency throughout the application. Render target colour, depth and stencil attachments can be inspected per-draw call. Furthermore, a new draw call inspector has been added and PVRTrace also provides improved experience for performing render state machine analysis and object (vertex buffer, texture, shader and shader program) inspection.

PVRHub now installs both the 32-bit and 64-bit PVRTrace Recording Libraries on 64-bit platforms. Furthermore, a superuser APK is no longer needed to start and stop tracing. PVRHub also has an updated configuration file format as well as an enhanced user interface.
